Under the newly enacted Citizenship Act, Canadian naturalized applicants aged 18 to 54 are required to take the citizenship test.
In November 2009 Citizenship and Immigration Canada introduced a new version of Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship, which is used by newcomers to study for the citizenship test. It also contains information about the history of Canada, how our government works, symbols of Canada and its regions. The new version added a great deal of new contents and information. This makes it not as easy to digest as it used to be. The passing rate of the test around the country has decreased sharply, and some regions reported that the failure rate is over 35%.
